Winner of the red dot design award 2010: Elipar™ S10 LED Curing Light

25 March 2010

The Elipar™ S10 LED Curing Light by 3M ESPE, a device for polymerization of light-curable dental materials, is among the winners of the red dot award for product design in 2010. On July 5, 2010, the product will be awarded with the well-known seal of quality for its design in a special awards ceremony taking place in Essen, Germany. Elipar S10 stands out due to its stainless steel exterior and comes with numerous advantageous features.

Today, product design has become more than just an optimization of a product’s external appearance: It also has an impact on the function and value of a device and thus may influence its overall success. Since more and more companies want to receive feedback on the design of their devices and products, the interest in design competitions is increasing. The curing light Elipar S10, launched in June 2009, was one of 4,252 products to participate in the red dot design award this year. Approximately 1,636 companies from 57 countries presented their devices to the expert jury composed of 30 internationally renowned designers, hoping to win an award in one of 17 different product categories.

The jury of the red dot design award, one of the world’s greatest and most renowned design competitions, evaluated the products on the basis of diverse selection criteria. These included the degree of innovation, functionality and the clarity of function, formal quality, ergonomics, durability, symbolic and emotional content as well as ecological compatibility of the products. The curing device Elipar S10 was able to convince the design experts with its durability, ergonomics and simplicity: Its outstanding one-piece stainless steel body – manufactured by hydroforming – meets the high requirements of robustness and hygiene. Ergonomic design and two button operation assure a save and intuitive handling. The 10 mm light guide with its unique magnetic light guide mount offers an easy fixation and adjustment. A detachable eye-shield facilitates the placement and protects against damage at the same time.

And not to forget the powerful and efficient curing performance: With 1.200 mW/cm² intensity, up to 50% more optical power, up to 80% more curing surface and up to three times more intensity at the clinically relevant distance of 7 mm Elipar S 10 is designed for confidence during any curing procedure.

Being proud of the success of Elipar S10, 3M ESPE is looking forward to receiving the famous quality seal “red dot” at the awards ceremony in Essen in July 2010.
