Two components, one truly strong bond

The perfect team: ultimate bond strength can be achieved with RelyX™ Ultimate Adhesive Resin Cement and Scotchbond™ Universal Adhesive

The perfect team: ultimate bond strength can be achieved with RelyX™ Ultimate Adhesive Resin Cement and Scotchbond™ Universal Adhesive

In January 2012, 3M ESPE launches two new products that both stand for ultimate bond strength: RelyX™ Ultimate Adhesive Resin Cement and Scotchbond™ Universal Adhesive. The two materials are 100% compatible and offer optimal performance when used in combination. The user also benefits from increased convenience, since fewer individual components are required to complete an indirect cementation.

RelyX Ultimate cement comes in an automix syringe with three different mixing tips e.g. for direct application in the mouth or even directly into the root canal. It is available in four shades – Translucent, A1, A3 Opaque and B0.5 – and is particularly suited for ceramic indications demanding high bond strength and aesthetics. RelyX Ultimate benefits from decades of experience at 3M ESPE in developing cements and adhesives for dental applications Scotchbond Universal offers a unique chemical composition that is designed for all application techniques – self etch and total etch – and works on every surface, no matter whether wet or dry.

RelyX Ultimate has an integrated dark cure activator for the new adhesive which eliminates the need for a separate activator. In addition, Scotchbond Universal functions as a metal and ceramic primer as well as a silane agent for glass ceramics so no additional products are needed for this purpose.

Fewer components, fewer working steps: means not only easier handling but also less risk of errors. Last but not least, it reduces your inventory.

Initial study results presented at the international conference “Excellence in Adhesive Dentistry” in Munich in September 2011 show that the shear bond strength to bovine dentin obtained with Scotchbond Universal and RelyX Ultimate after water storage and thermocycling, for example, is significantly higher than that achieved with other systems, no matter whether the self-etch or total-etch technique is chosen. Shear bond strength to glass ceramics and zirconia also proved to be very high. Test users confirmed that easy, safe and fast cementation procedure is made possible by the combination of these two innovative products. First clinical cases were presented.
