Paint Filters

For many years, manufacturers of paint and coating products have relied on 3M paint filters to ensure the efficient and consistent production of superior products.

Paint Filters are required to get a smooth and even coat and to provide a professional finish.

3M Purification is a key provider of separations equipment to the paints and coatings markets, from the preparation of the raw materials, to the production processes, right through to the point of delivery and application of the coatings.

We focus on delivering installations which optimize the total cost of filtration by maximizing filter life whilst maintaining a consistent level of performance. This ensures that our customers can attain their demanding quality specifications whilst reducing production downtime, product scrap / re-work levels, generated waste, and energy consumption rates.

Automotive Paints

Whether it’s in the paint manufacturing process to meet the exacting standards for reproducibly high quality paints and coatings, or at the car production plant where the car bodies undergo a series of preparation stages from the initial Phosphate wash through to the application of the final Clearcoat, 3M have proprietary filter products that can improve the quality and efficiency of the process.

In the production and application of the coatings we recommend one of our classifying grades of 3M Betapure AU depth filters to ensure the delivery of the coating as intended. During the wash and Electrode position processes we have positive experience of employing our CUNO DF systems or 3M NB series bag filters for superior performance. In addition,3M Purification have high oil capacity absorbance filters to deal with periodic build up of tramp oil whilst minimizing any bacterial presence in the baths 3M 100 Series.

Resin Production

As a base chemical used in the preparation of a full spectrum of coating products, the resin production facilities rely heavily of consistently high levels of filtration to ensure the quality of their products.

Many serious end-user film defects can be caused by the presence of hard resin particles, residual metal catalysts or fibres. Similarly, haze presence in a resin which reduces the distinctness of image can be a problem in transparent coatings.

3M Purification supplies many of the key resin producers on a global basis with filtration solutions to ensure the effective removal and retention of any unwanted contaminants from the resins hence ensuring that the customers maintain their high level of production quality. Typically we supply the resin plants with our depth filter products such as 3M™ Betapure™ AU, 3M™ Betapure™ BK, often in a self enclosed system CUNO™ CTG series to further enhance the operations of the customers plant.

Ink Jet Production and Printing

From the production of ink formulations to their appliance onto the intended substrate, 3M Purification have process enhancing filter solutions to ensure a consistent quality of the ink.

Whether it be an aqueous dye based or non-aqueous pigment based ink 3M Purifications filters perform to effectively remove any contaminant or out of tolerance particles that would impair the performance of the ink during the printing process. The applications can require multiple filtration stages to ensure the highest quality is achieved and maintained.
