3M™ Cavilon™ No Sting Barrier Film offers superior skin protection

This link will open a PDF file A comparative study of the skin protectant performance of five barrier films (PDF, 45.6KB) was undertaken to compare the barrier performance and durability of the five barrier film products listed below.

Cavilon No Sting Barrier Film (3M Health Care)
LBF™ No Sting Skin Barrier (Clinimed)
Skin Safe Non Sting Protective Film (Opus Healthcare)
Skin-Prep™ (Smith & Nephew)
Comfeel Protective Film (Coloplast)

A dye retention test was used to measure the effectiveness of the products’ barrier properties. Stains of a harmless water-soluble red dye were applied to the subjects’ back and were randomly covered with the paint-on barrier films. One stain was left uncovered and used as a control.

The study shows that Cavilon No Sting Barrier Film provides significantly superior skin protection, between 2 and 7 days after application, compared to all other skin barrier films tested. Three out of the five barrier film products tested did not protect the site significantly better than no covering at all.
