Intumescent Fire Protection for Structural Steel

Our comprehensive range of high performance intumescent coatings provides protection to a building for 30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes.

Developed at 3M Northallerton, the 3M™ Scotchkote™ range of waterborne intumescent products are applied as thin films and expand up to 50 times their original thickness in the event of a fire. This protects the steel from reaching its critical temperature – or the point at which it will collapse – for long enough to allow people to evacuate the building.

• Gives occupants time to evacuate buildings
• Negligible impact on external envelope of host substrate
• Its water-borne formulation containing no solvents
• It is safer to store, reduces health and safety issues on site

Solvent-free formulation minimises disruption to other trades during the construction phase of the building
