Staffed by highly experienced and qualified personnel, the Training, Coding and Consultancy Services Department offers an extensive skill-set for the provision of training and related services to both Primary and Secondary Care.
All services provided to UK NHS clients conform to National Standards. Within the team are NHSIA Accredited Clinical Coders (ACCs), TAP Approved Trainers and Approved Clinical Coding Auditors. Some have management experience within a clinical informatics setting, including implementation and development of clinical and PAS systems.

Training for Primary Care
The current GMS Contract supports the use of Read Codes for Clinical Governance and National Service Frameworks. Read Code Training courses assist participants to use Read Codes accurately and effectively, therefore improving the quality of healthcare information within the Practice.
Main objectives of the training sessions are to ensure that participants:
- Use the correct search methods
- Understand the structure of Read Codes
- Are knowledgeable in the use of Read Codes to facilitate data quality
- Deliver consistency of terminology an data collection uniformity

Outsource and Backlog Coding Services
There are times when, due to staff sickness, holidays etc, the Coding Department can be overwhelmed with a backlog of work. With the introduction of Payment by Results, it is now even more critical that episodes of care are coded in a timely fashion.
3M have Accredited Clinical Coders (ACCs) and very experienced coding staff who can provide temporary coding assistance.
Many NHS Trusts have already used 3M services to considerably reduce their coding backlog, without interrupting the workflow of their own coders.

HRG Assurance
3M's UK HRG Assurance Programme is modelled on 3M's Diagnostic Related Groups (DRGs) Assurance in the US.
Objectives are:
- Accurate and complete case note documentation
- Assessment of casenote quality
- Education of healthcare personnel and clinicians
- Implementation of a concurrent review programme
- Obtaining accurate and complete casenote documentation
- Evaluation and monitoring with frequent feedback
