At the heart of our range of our medium voltage and low voltage cable accessories is 3M Cold Shrink, which enables rapid and consistently high quality installation as well as long-term durability and is regarded as less hazardous to install. Since no heat source or specialist tools are required, installations of joints and terminations can be carried out in a fraction of the time compared to alternative methods and less equipment needs to be carried on-site - so when working conditions are awkward and cramped, time spent on-site can be reduced, lowering project times.

3M have been supplying cable accessories and resin for use in hazardous areas for in excess of 25 years and have carried out extensive research into the effects of hydro-carbons and chemical solvents on resin encapsulants. 3M™ 1400U resin is a polyetherurethane which has been highly modified with chemical additives. These additives make the resin flame retardant and virtually unaffected by immersion in either hydro-carbons or chemical solvents.

3M cold shrink end caps are close-ended, tubular rubber sleeves that are factory loaded onto a removable core. Positioned over the end of a cable, or other object, the core is removed by hand. The live memory action of the specially formulated material shrinks the end cap into position and ensures a constant radial pressure to give you a reliable and durable seal, protecting your cable ends from environmental damage either temporarily or permanently. No requirement for mastic, grease or flame. These products are widely used in both onshore and offshore environments.
