3M - Clitheroe’s first safety charter

The celebration cake was topped with the charter reproduced in icing

17th April 2013

3M Health Care's Clitheroe site held a double celebration for the launch of its first safety charter combined with the achievement of a year without any lost time injury accidents.

The charter was compiled by a cross-function team brought together to consider the commitments that everyone at the site should sign up to. These included such statements as 'I will be proactive in resolving safety issues', 'I will think before I act' and 'I will not walk past an unsafe situation without acting on it'.

Stephen Hanna, the site’s EHS engineer explained:  “The idea was that this shouldn’t be a management-led charter but one conceived by the team members themselves.  Everyone at the site has now read and signed it to demonstrate their commitment.

“Its completion coincided with the end of an accident-free year so that seemed a perfect time for a site celebration.”

A special cake was baked with the charter reproduced in icing on the top and everyone at the site was presented with a polo shirt embossed with one of the statements from the charter.

With the safety charter are (l-r) Chris Corish, Mark Bolton, Chris Telling, Lee Hodges and Stephen Hanna, who were all part of the team involved in developing the charter Stephen Hanna and Product Supply manager Chris Corish with the celebration cake
