In Europe, the Regulation (EC) 2073/2005 relating to the microbiological criteria applicable to foodstuffs stipulates in Article 5 that
“The use of alternative analytical methods is acceptable, when the methods are validated against the reference method set down in Annex I * and certified by a third party in accordance with the protocol set in EN/ISO standard 16140 or other internationally accepted similar protocols”. Many 3M Food Safety tests have been awarded the AFNOR Validation mark, these methods being validated according to the EN ISO 16140 protocol, so they can be used in the frame of this European Regulation.
Numerous other evaluations have been completed through validating agencies and peer review publications worldwide to demonstrate the reliable, consistent results 3M Petrifilm™ Plates and 3M Tecra™ methods provide.
