3M™ Maintenance Free Particulate Respirators
The introduction of 3M™ Advanced Electret Material allows 3M™ Maintenance Free Particulate Respirators to meet the requirements of EN149: 2001 without compromising wearer comfort.
Negative pressure respirators are designed to work simply. The respirator wearer inhales, this creates a negative pressure inside the facepiece (relative to the outside pressure) and air is drawn in through the filter.
This process relies on two essential components to ensure that the air is purified:
- An adequate seal to the face
- An efficient filter
There are three common problems that may occur with this type of respirator; fit to the face, build-up of heat and moisture within the facepiece and breathing resistance.
The new technology of 3M™ Advanced Electret Material helps overcome these problems in a number of ways:
One approach to meet the new requirements of EN149: 2001 is to add filter materials to the respirator but this may result in a higher breathing resistance.
The 3M™ Advanced Electret media allows an increased filter performance without adding more filter material.
Low Breathing Resistance
The Advanced Electret Material combines the benefits of mechanical and electrostatic filters resulting in lower breathing resistance.
Minimal build-up of heat and moisture
3M™ Advanced Electret material is thinner than the material in most conventional respirators. This, combined with the Cool Flow exhalation valve, minimises the build-up of heat and moisture within the facepiece whilst providing the required protection.
The use of new materials in the inner shell of many 3M™ Particulate Respirators means they are less likely to ‘collapse’, which can be a problem in some hot, humid conditions.
