The 3M hearing protection selection guide is designed to help you select the optimum 3M hearing protector for your workplace so as to reduce the risk of noise induced hearing damage while at the same time minimising the potential danger of over-protection, which can affect audibility of vital communication and emergency sounds, for example fire alarms.

Legislation & Standards
As of April 2006 a new European Directive, 2003/10/EEC has been transposed into national law. Under the new legislation a new Limit Value of 87dB(A) at the ear must not be exceeded, and hearing protection must be made available where the sound levels are at or above 80dB(A), and strictly enforced where the sound levels reach or exceed 85dB(A).

All employers have a duty of care to protect their employees whilst at work and keep them informed about health and safety. Hazardous work can really endanger the hearing of your employees!
