Oil well cementing using low density cements offers improved production, less remediation, reduced formation damage and better zonal isolation.
As an additive to casing cements, 3M™ Glass Bubbles prevent formation damage by reducing hydrostatic pressure on the wellbore wall from the rising slurry. They can decrease well cement density to as low as 0.72kg/l (6lb/gal). Their incompressibility also provides consistent, predictable performance at the surface and at the bottom of the borehole.
Other benefits include:
Low shrinkage
Reduced ‘wait on cure’ time
No multiple staging
Higher yield
Easy mixing with no need for compressors
Relief for lost circulation
No corrosion of steel casing compared to aerated fluids
Good strength at 12 and 24 hours
Low porosity
A number of global oil and gas majors and service companies have undertaken successful oil well cementing jobs using Glass Bubbles in their low density cements.
