INTENDED USE

These products are designed to help reduce exposure to hazardous noise levels and loud sounds. These products are available in headband and helmet mounted versions.The helmet mounted versions are tested and approved with specified industrial safety helmets.

Product Features:

Electrically insulated* headband

*Sometimes referred to as "dielectric".

The metal components of the headband have been covered by non-conductive material for use in a low voltage electrical hazard (less than440V ac).

As there are no applicable standards for testing ear muffs against electrical insulating properties, the product has been evaluated at an external laboratory against a modified test method based on EN397:1995.

During assessment, the leakage current did not exceed 1.2mA when the external surface of the product made contact with an electrical source.

The user must determine the overall suitability of this product for the intended application taking into account any hazards other than noise for which this product is tested and CE approved.

User Instructions WARNING AND LIMITATIONS

Always be sure that the complete product is:
  • Suitable for the application;
  • Fitted correctly;
  • Worn during all periods of exposure;
  • Replaced when necessary.
  • This product may be adversely affected by certain chemical substances.
  • Further information should be sought from 3M.
  • Leave the area immediately if the hearing protector becomes damaged.
  • The fitting of hygiene covers to the cushions may affect the acoustic performance of the ear muffs.
  • Do not modify or repair this product.
  • Ear muffs, and in particular cushions, may deteriorate with use and should be examined at frequent intervals for cracking and leakage, for example.
  • The acoustic seal may be adversely affected by wearing other equipment, such as spectacles, respirators etc. This may reduce attenuation. If in doubt, contact your safety officer or 3M.
  • When worn, hearing protectors reduce ambient sounds which may affect warning signals and vital communication. Always ensure that you select the right product to match the working environment so that vital communication and emergency sounds remain audible.
  • Ear muffs complying with EN352-1 and EN352-3 are of 'medium size range' or 'small size range' or 'large size range'.
  • 'Medium size range' helmet mounted ear muffs will fit majority of wearers. 'Small size range' or 'large size range' helmet mounted ear muffs are designed to fit wearers for whom 'medium size range' helmet mounted ear muffs are not suitable.
  • Helmet mounted ear muffs must be used with the approved helmet combination listed in Table1 only
  • Proper selection, training, use and appropriate maintenance are essential in order for the product to help protect the wearer from noise hazards.
  • Particular attention should be given to warning statements where indicated.
  • Failure to follow all instructions on the use of these personal protection products and/or failure to properly wear the complete product during all periods of exposure may adversely affect the wearer's health, lead to severe or life threatening illness or permanent disability.

See all instructions for use and save for continuing reference.

FITTING INSTRUCTIONS

Prior to fitting, inspect the product to ensure it is not damaged.

If this is discovered dispose of immediately and obtain a new pair.

Brush excess hair aside and remove any ear jewellery that may affect acoustic seal before attempting to fit the hearing protector.

Headband Version

User Instructions 1. Pull the cups apart and place the ear muffs over the ears so that the cushions form a snug seal around the ears.
User Instructions 2. Adjust the height for optimum comfort and fit by sliding the cups up or down the guide whilst holding the headband in place.
User Instructions 3. Shows the product correctly fitted.

Helmet Mounted Version

User Instructions 4. Fitting the cup

Push the attachment blade firmly into the slot on the side of the helmet until it clicks into place.

User Instructions 5. Working position

With the cups over the ears press the wire bands inwards until you hear a click on both sides indicating a firm seal. If necessary adjust the cups by sliding up or down until they form a snug seal around the ears. Ensure the cups and wire band do not chafe against the head harness or edge of the helmet which may result in acoustic leakage.

User Instructions 6. Stand-by position

Lift the cups to the fixed stand-by position. In a noisy environment the ear muffs must be worn in the working position at all times.

User Instructions 7. Parking position

First lift cups to the stand-by position, then rotate them up to the next fixed position.

IMPORTANT: Do not press the cups onto the helmet shell as this will lock the spring in the ear muff arm and damage the attachment slot on the side of the helmet and the sealing cushion.

User Instructions 8. Storage position

When the helmet is not in use, lower the ear muffs and press them inward. Keep the cups clean and dry and store at normal room temperature.

FIT CHECK

When hearing protectors are correctly worn your own voice should sound hollow and sounds around you should not sound as loud as before.For optimum noise reduction the cushions should form a snug fit against the head with no interference of the seal by any objects e.g. respirator headbands or spectacles arms. The cups should completely enclose the ears. If you are unable to fit these ear muffs correctly and comfortably contact your safety officer or 3M for further advice.

Cleaning and Maintenance

1. At the end of each shift the cushions of the ear muffs should be wiped with a suitable material, for example 3M™ 105 Face Seal Cleaners, so they remain clean and hygienic. The product can also be cleaned using mild detergent and water.

2. If the ear muffs cannot be cleaned or are damaged, dispose of the product and obtain a new pair.
