Diversified technology company 3M is hosting a free webinar designed for health and safety professionals or line managers in the metal fabrication industry. 'Fab PPE - staying safe in the metal fabrication industry' is part of its 'safety spotlight' series for 2014 which is designed to share 3M knowledge and expertise on a variety of workplace issues, hazards and training methods.
Taking place on Thursday 8 May at 12.00pm, the webinar will be hosted by Technical Services Engineer Robert Brill of the 3M Personal Safety Division, who will discuss some of the challenges facing health and safety professionals, looking at the range of fabrication and welding hazards that have to be dealt with and how to select and use personal protective equipment (PPE).
Robert Brill says: "In the metal welding and fabrication industry, activities such as welding and cutting can produce fume, gas, light and spark hazards which require a range of control measures, including PPE. Some tasks can combine several hazards which require different types of PPE and choosing equipment that is purpose-designed for the task ultimately helps to ensure employee compliance and confidence in protection.
"The webinar will look at the common tasks heavily reliant on PPE and review risks to eyes, hearing, skin and lungs before looking at how selecting the right PPE can ensure workers remain both safe and productive."
