EN 343:2003 Protective clothing: Protection against rain

This standard specifies the requirements for protective clothing against the effects of foul weather (rain, wind and snowflakes).   Garments according to this standard often also offer  protection against cold and therefore follow the EN 342 and have corresponding marking.  It also happens that protection against rain and visibility needs are needed in the same garment.  The requirements of the EN 343 include:

  • Water resistance
  • Water vapour resistance or "breathability" of the garment
  • Strength of garment components - tensile, tear and seam strength, shrinkage

The pictogram used for these garments is as per below, and states the performance of the garment in terms of water and water vapour resistance.
