EN 342:2004 Protective clothing against cold


This pre standard specifies the requirements for protective clothing against temperatures lower than -5°C, and typically relates to insulated garments used for cold store use for example.

The performance requirements for clothing conforming to this standard include:

  • Thermal insulation tested on a moving thermal mannequin
  • Air permeability/wind resistance
  • Water vapour resistance or "breathability"

The following pictogram applies, giving the performance of the garment in terms of thermal insulation, air permeability and water vapour resistance.
