Cleaning & Applications Instructions


Cleaning Instructions


Routine washing is recommended for maximum performance. The following cleaning methods are recommended for vehicle safety markings:

  • Wash with sponge, cloth or soft brush using water and detergent
  • Automatic truck/car wash or standard high-pressure hand spray
  • Maximum pressure-1200 PSI/ 80 bar
  • Maximum water/wash solution temperature-140°F/ 60°C
  • Minimum of 12 inches/ 30cm distance of cleaning jet(s) from markings.
  • Cleaning wand or jets to be at no greater angle than 45 degrees from perpendicular to the marking surface
  • When using metal brighteners, follow manufacturer’s recommendations for dilution
  • Thoroughly rinse from markings after soaking vehicle.

Application Instructions


  • Materials must be applied when the air temperature is between 15°C and 38°C to ensure proper adhesive bonding
  • Apply sheeting to flat, clean, dry, wax-free, non-corroded and weather resistant surfaces
  • All surfaces must be considered contaminated and must be cleaned of all grease, flaking paint, oil, dirt and dust using detergent and water
  • Use a clean towel and Isopropyl Alcohol, or similar cleaner, to wipe the surface before application
  • Applications are not recommended over irregular shaped framework, bolts, large rivets, hinges or welded joints
  • Establish a reference line for the tape
  • Peel back a section of the release liner and fold back on itself, being careful not to touch the exposed adhesive
  • Align the beginning of the tape with your reference line and lightly tack the tape in place
  • Continue down the side of the vehicle, removing the liner as you go

  • When you have completed a length, use a squeegee and ensure firm overlapping strokes (hand rubbing is not enough)

  • Use a blade or hollow punch to cut around rivets and between joints of body panels

  • If using 3MTM Diamond GradeTM Vehicle Marking Film Series 987 Peel off the top layer of film.
  • Do not overlap sheeting
  • Allow 72 hours before washing.
