East Riding of Yorkshire Council selects 3M library system

27 October 2009

Diversified technology company 3M has been appointed by East Riding of Yorkshire Council to convert its 23 libraries across the county to self-service with a range of SelfCheck equipment, which will help to enhance the services already offered.

Allan Moir, Libraries, Arts and Heritage Group Manager, East Riding of Yorkshire Council, explains: “We felt it was important to update our library system to ensure that we continue to offer a high level of service to our library users. The investment will reduce the amount of time spent on administrative tasks resulting in our staff having more time to speak to and help our customers, which will be a key factor in moving to the very different library service of the future.”

The 3M equipment comprises almost half a million radio frequency identification (RFID) tags which ensure easy identification, location and security of library items; multiple SelfCheck Systems, allowing library visitors to check out and return their items quickly and easily; Staff Workstations, bringing the benefit of RFID to the library staff service stations; and Digital Library Assistants, allowing staff to quickly and easily perform shelf-reading searches and inventory scans.

David Fletcher, Marketing Manager of 3M’s Library Systems division, explains: “3M offers a wide range of SelfCheck Systems to suit every kind of library, all of which are easy for customers to use. The addition of our systems will help save valuable time and effort in any library and we look forward to being able to share the benefits with the librarians and visitors to the libraries of East Riding of Yorkshire.”

3M is a leading supplier of technology solutions to libraries. The company offers a wide range of options to suit all libraries, including RFID systems, SelfCheck systems, Tattle-Tape Security technology and applications, detection systems and circulation accessories.
