3M’s Unique Printable Film Inspires Design Creativity for Windows and Glass Surfaces
29 November 2010
Diversified technology company 3M has announced its latest, highly-transparent printable film innovation opening up huge new possibilities for interior and exterior glass design. Scotchcal Clear View Graphic Film 8150 from 3M is the first perfectly transparent, cast PVC printing film on the market for imaginative glass and window vehicle graphics, point of sale, interior and exterior graphics, and building decoration.
Offering a unique combination of print and transparency in a one-sheet solution, 3M Scotchcal Clear View Graphic Film 8150 enables intricate designs without the need to cut or weed around the printed design. The film’s transparent nature means that unprinted sections are invisible on both glass and opaque substrates.
Using the film, window graphics and manifestation markings can now feature special effect fades and colour gradients, simulation of acid etched and frosted glass, one-way vision effects and double-sided graphics. The latter is ideal for applications where a different image or message is required on each side of the glass. One-way vision is particularly desirable in transport advertising and can be achieved by printing a hole matrix, without the need to perforate the film. The film’s highly conformable nature and innovative adhesive makes it easy to apply and remove even on contoured and curved surfaces, such as windscreens, without leaving any residue.
Offering a seven year durability, covered by the 3M Performance Guarantee and the 3M MCS Warranty, 3M Scotchcal Clear View Graphic Film 8150 has many advantages over other products on the market for glass designs. In buildings, for example, new and existing glass surfaces such as facades, shop windows, stairwells and balustrades can be utilised to their full potential. In office buildings individualised privacy solutions can be created for conference rooms, doors and partitions. Furthermore, furniture, fittings, tables, display cabinets and showcases can be decorated using the film. On the exterior of buildings, the film can be applied to windows as an extension of brand image or as an ultra large format advertising medium.
Scotchcal Clear View Graphic Film 8150 is compatible with all the usual digital and screen printing systems. It has a special PET liner that prevents static charge during conversion and is optimised for wet application so that it can be easily bonded. The film is available from 3M primary stockists William Smith and Spandex.
