New Compliance Logo Shows 3M’s Commitment to High Ethical Standards

15 November 2011

The Health Care division of diversified technology company 3M, has become one of the first businesses in the UK to be licensed to use a new ethical business logo.  Developed by leading medical technology trade association the ABHI (Association of British Healthcare Industries), the logo is a public demonstration of 3M’s commitment to high standards of integrity and ethical business practice in its interactions with healthcare providers.

To be licensed to use the logo, member companies must follow the ABHI Code of Business Practice and implement written policies and procedures to ensure Code compliance. They must also nominate a senior compliance manager and provide comprehensive and regular training on the Code to employees.

“We are delighted to have been granted a licence to use the logo” said Mark Dawson, 3M Country Business Leader, Health Care Markets. “Doing business the right way is a fundamental 3M company value and the logo  is an ideal complement to our high standards of conduct. We intend to feature it prominently on customer communications and our online resources” he added.

Commenting on the benefits of the logo scheme to the medical technology industry, Clive Powell, Technical and Regulatory Manager, ABHI, said, "We are very pleased that 3M has chosen to be among the first UK companies using the ABHI Ethical Compliance Logo.  It denotes that a company is addressing ethical compliance issues in a serious and systematic way and that a comprehensive training programme is in place for that company’s personnel.  We hope that the logo will become the recognised symbol of good ethical practice for not only UK medical technology companies but also at a European level, where the umbrella trade organisation Eucomed is running a parallel scheme using the same symbology.”
