Quicker completion and less on-site disruption with new 3M Liquid Roofing System

4 April 2012

Speed of application and minimal disruption to other work on-site are synonymous with the new Scotchkote Liquid Roofing System from diversified technology company 3M.

Building on 3M’s extensive pioneering work in protective liquid roofing membranes, Scotchkote Urethane Roof Coating SD 650 can be applied by brush or roller to a variety of substrates and allows complete roof protection jobs to be finished in a single day.

Costs per job are dramatically cut by the reduced requirements for scaffolding hire, skilled labour and materials.  Meanwhile, the system’s low solvent formulation results in a drastically reduced odour emission, minimising disruption to other workers and building occupiers.

Meanwhile, the new product’s superior mechanical properties mean there is no need for ancillary reinforcing materials, such as fleeces or mats, saving significantly on the time and effort typically spent on detailing.  All that is required is to tape any joints and then brush over with Scotchkote Roof Detailing Compound SDR 655 which cures in around two hours – meaning labour times can be reduced by up to 80 per cent, allowing other work to progress more quickly.

The system – suitable for both new build and refurbishment - has been stringently tested by 3M against the requirements of ETAG-005 European Technical Approval. In all cases its performance matched or exceeded that of 3M’s existing certified products, with the company offering a Life to First Maintenance of 25 years on the new system.  It is also accredited for Fire Resistance AA to BS476 Part 3: 2004. It is available exclusively through 3M’s network of Approved and Trained Contractors across the UK.

Jane Holliday of 3M Infrastructure Protection Division explained:  “The new system has been tested extensively in the field and contractors have been extremely impressed by its speed and ease of application.  For the first time, jobs can be completed within a single day with fewer ancillary materials needed allowing contracts to progress more quickly and delivering peace of mind for building owners.”
