Cavilon No Sting Barrier Film a winner with stoma patients

10 July 2013

A patient-nominated award scheme has named Cavilon no sting barrier film (NSBF), from global technology company 3M, the ‘Most Innovative Product’ for ostomy care.  Hosted annually by UK charity Ostomy Lifestyle, the awards highlight professionals, volunteers, support groups and products which improve the experiences of patients  after stoma surgery.  Cavilon NSBF has been recognised for its ease of use and  “working wonders on fragile skin healing around the stoma site.”

Stoma surgery is performed to treat serious, often life threatening, diseases and conditions such as bowel or bladder cancer and inflammatory bowel disease.  Patients are required to wear a stoma bag to collect the body’s waste products, and as a result, skin can become sore due to leakage of body fluids or the continuous use and removal of adhesive stoma appliances.  Cavilon NSBF forms a waterproof protective film which can be applied to intact or broken skin around the stoma without stinging.  The alcohol-free formula offers gentle yet effective protection and comes in a wide range of formats including a spray, lollipop applicator and convenient stoma wipe.

“We’re delighted that Cavilon no sting barrier film is so highly valued by patients,” said Florence Hall, senior marketing executive at 3M.  “Protecting the skin around a stoma can make a really positive contribution to quality of life and to hear Cavilon described as ‘amazing’ and ‘invaluable’ makes us very proud.  I’d like to thank all the Ostomy Lifestyle service users who took the time to nominate and vote.”

Ostomy Lifestyle supports over 12,000 ileostomy, colostomy and urostomy patients in the UK and overseas with services including  a free helpline, newsletter and patient education workshops.  Now in its fourth year, the 2013 awards programme attracted a record number of nominations and votes.

“We are thrilled to have seen so many people, groups and products nominated and voted for in the 2013 Awards” said Helen Bracey, Ostomy Lifestyle helpline services manager.  “There is such a wealth of support available for people affected by stoma surgery and the Awards are all about celebrating  that.  It has been an honour to meet our winners and hear about the passion for patient
care that drives them,” she added.
