Give your home a quick and easy spring makeover with the Command Brand from 3M

25 February 2014

Spring is a great time to breathe new life into your home.  This need not involve drastic and disruptive DIY, it just takes a little inspiration.

The Command Brand from 3M has some simple ideas that even those most afraid of DIY can follow to refresh your home for the year ahead.

Command Products from 3M are a range of ingenious adhesive strips and hooks which allow home lovers to hang decorations,  pictures and much more without the hassle of nails, screws and tacks, throughout the home.

Holding fast to wood, tile, metal or to painted walls, Command Products can revolutionise the way that you hang almost anything.  Yet when the time comes to refresh a room with a new look and style, the strips and hooks can be removed from walls quickly and easily without leaving any marks.

Why not try out one of these simple ideas to give your home a stunning spring update?

Feature wall
Spring is the perfect time to give a drab room or area a revamp.  However, if the idea of picking out new paints and getting messy with DIY fills you with dread, follow our tips for creating a simple gallery/feature wall which will create an instant impact and interior transformation, without the need for nails.

  • First, choose the area in your home that you wish to update, it may be the wall running up the stairs, a quiet reading area or simply the space above your sofa that needs an injection of style and colour.  It’s all about refreshing your existing scheme and transforming a tired area within your home.
  • Try to balance out the colours in your picture gallery.  Pick one key colour that features in most of your images and spread these out on the wall.  This allows the eye to travel around the whole gallery easily and it will bring a real synergy to your display.
  • You don’t have to just use photos for your gallery, sketches or illustrations can look just as stylish.  As long as the pictures complement one another, you can be fairly creative with your choices.
  • Opt for similar style frames - like modern, rustic or shabby chic - that will suit your existing interior décor and complement each other.
  • Keep the spaces between the frames fairly small.  A good tip is to lay them out on the floor and decide on the arrangement before you commit to hanging them on the wall.
  • If you are feeling exceptionally creative, why not create a pattern or shape with your pictures?  You could even create a photo tree by using a simple wall transfer.
  • When you are happy with your selection, use the easy-to-stick Command Picture Hanging Strips to hang your frames as they avoid the need to drill or hammer any holes into your walls.
  • Command Products can be removed hassle free and with no damage, so it’s easy to straighten and realign your pictures by clicking and unclicking.  To move your picture to a new wall simply pull the strip off following the instructions, replace with a new one and position your picture.

Study area
Why not try turning a spare room or even a bare wall into a home office?  Quick and easy to do, this look will dramatically inject colour into your home.

  • Use the Command Coloured Hooks to hang any personal items such as keys and headphones on the wall.  This will keep them safe and bring a more personal feel to your room.
  • Hanging clipboards on the wall saves precious space on worktops or desks, and is a good way to display your ‘to do’ list. Command Small Wire Hooks are ideal for this.
  • Personalise the wall even more by placing large colourful letters above the desk.  Find a word you love or spell your name out and use the Command Picture Strips to fix them securely on the wall.
  • Using Command damage-free products to create a study space in a spare room means that your room can easily be transformed back into a bedroom if you so wish.

Fresh look
If you are looking for a fresh new look for the living room, why not take inspiration from the garden?  Spring brings with it fragrant herbs and colourful flowers.

  • Pick up some natural coloured tubs, and fill with your favourite herbs and spices and hang on the wall using Command Hooks in a colour to complement the wall.  This will save space on side tables, and will be easily accessible if you need to use any in your cooking.
  • Command Hooks come in a varity of weights and sizes enabling you to hang a combination of tubs and pots on the wall.

Tidy your kitchen cupboards
Spring is the prefect time to clear out the cupboards and organise what you really need to keep.  Use these simple tips to tidy your kitchen and declutter.

  • Displaying utensils, pots and pans is a great way to keep them close to hand when you are cooking.  Use the Command Nickel Hooks to hang the pots and pans up as these will hold the weight and will blend in with almost any colour scheme.
  • Command Hooks are great to use inside the kitchen cupboards too.  By placing the Small White Hooks inside the cupboards they can be used for hanging cups, saving shelf space for other items.

Bedroom storage solution
If you are struggling to find space in your wardrobe or chest of drawers, follow these simple tips to create a little more hanging space in your bedroom.

  • Simply apply Command Medium hooks at a range of different heights on a blank wall in your bedroom and use the Command Coloured Hooks to stylishly hang your favourite accessories; scarves, hats and handbags to the walls.  Available in a range of four colours, there is one to suit your colour scheme.
  • Not only does it solve a storage solution, but done with a little style it will create great design feature to your room.
  • If you want to add a contempary feel to your room, why not try the new Double Hooks and Terrace Hooks?  Both new designs are available in slate and graphite and fit naturally in any area of the home.
  • With the Double Hooks there is enough room for the family to have their own hook each.  Try placing one lower down for younger kids.
  • The new Double Hooks feature ensures jackets and scarfs can be kept together, to avoid time wasted in the morning searching for items.
  • The Double Hooks and Terrace Hooks are ideal for hanging coats, hats, scarfs and almost any item of clothing as they stay put with up to 1.3kg of weight hung on them.

Temporary interior party decorations
Spring is a great time to brighten the home, and with celebrations such as Easter coming up hanging bunting is a great way to do this.  The thought of decorating your home can seem like a dreadful hassle but Command Products remove that worry.

  • If you’re concerned about hanging temporary decorations as you don’t want to mark your walls, Command Products offer the ideal solution.
  • Command Hooks give you the flexibility to hang everything exactly where you want it to go and best of all you can easily remove them all once the party is over without leaving any damage to your paintwork or walls.
  • Command Micro Hooks and Command Decorating Clips are particularly good for hanging lightweight items such as fairy lights, bunting and simple cardboard decorations.

Organise your children’s bedroom
If seeing carpet in your children’s bedroom is a rare sight, follow these simple ideas to get clothes, toys and bags off the floor and easily stored away.

  • Prioritise items that are needed on a daily basis, such as cycle helmets, coats and school bags and use Command Coloured Hooks to hang them at ‘child height’ on the area of wall nearest the bedroom door – this will leave no excuse for the kids not to hang these items up as they run in from school or from play time with friends!
